Content: Folios 433-434. Letter from Thomas N Firmin, Clerk to the Guardians of the Southampton Incorporation, to the Poor Law Board, enclosing a copy of a recommendation from the workhouse medical officer [Patrick MacKay] that the workhouse children be given a new diet. Because of skin disease among the children, Mackay recommends an enhanced diet. Breakfast: half a pint of milk with half a pint of water, and five ounces of bread. Dinner: three ounces of cooked fresh meat, eight ounces of vegetables, four ounces of bread. Supper: bread and cheese as before. Annotated: by W Hawley [Poor Law Inspector]. The skin disease, of long standing, is found to be the Itch. Hawley recommends the Board to sanction the change to the diet. Sanction. Paper Number: 28607/1854. Poor Law Union Number 407.
