Description:

1 individual petition (Michael Fisher, the prisoner's employer) on behalf of John Darrington [Valentine Marshall], butcher and grazier, convicted at Nottingham Quarter Sessions in January 1832 for stealing clothing. Grounds for clemency: only 16 years old, previous quiet and modest conduct, reliable employee, would employ him again, his employer was away when the riots happened so the prisoner joined the mob out of idle curiosity, no evil intentions. Initial sentence: 7 years' transportation. Gaoler's report: character bad. Annotated: nil. KQ 11
