Description:

One petition (from Susan Hopson) on behalf of Susanna Hopson [alias Susan Hopson] convicted at the Kent Lent Assizes 1827 for stealing lead, property of Charles Cage of Berstead. Initial sentence: seven years transportation.

Also a petition (from David Myers, the prisoner's son) on behalf of Ann Tolnack [or Ann Tonnick or Ann Tonnak] convicted at the Kent Summer Assizes in July 1831 for stealing in a shop. Initial sentence: transportation for life. Gaoler's report: character bad, once capitally convicted in Surrey.

Mr Wilder, the Clerk of Peace at Maidstone, encloses an order of the court, and extracts from visiting magistrates reports, all recommending mercy. Grounds for clemency: age [Hopson 70 years, and Tonnick is 60 years of age]; throughout their imprisonment both have conducted themselves in a uniformly orderly and exemplary manner. Annotated: to be discharged accordingly. Free pardon prepared 20 July, 24 July 1833. ES 13.
