Description:

Folios 476-479. Letter to Philip Stephens [secretary to the Admiralty] from the commissioners for Sick and Wounded Seamen [folios 477-478] seeking directions for sending parole prisoners from Alresford [Hampshire] and Bodmin [Cornwall] via Southampton and Falmouth respectively to Guernsey for onward transport to France. Enclosed [folios 476 and 479] is a copy of a letter of 4 September to the commissioners from Thomas Durell at Southampton reporting the terms for hiring the 40-ton Anna, Daniel Ayling master, requesting Admiralty Protection for its crew, and asking whether any guard would be provided to prevent the passengers from taking the vessel directly to France.
