Title: Office of the Auditors of Land Revenue: Modern Deeds, Series E
Description:

Private conveyancing deeds, and transcripts of them, acquired by the auditors of the land revenue. Most of the records are likely either to have been obtained from the Augmentation Office or brought to the auditors' office for enrolment. A substantial portion of the series is represented by material related to the jointures of Queen Henrietta Maria and Catherine of Braganza (LR 16/80 to LR 16/226). On the death of the Queen Consort any documents relating to lands held in jointure were to be delivered into the Exchequer and thereafter into the records of the auditors of land revenue. LR 16/147 is a schedule of such deeds for Queen Catherine of Braganza, produced according to an order of the Exchequer dated Easter term 1711. Another copy of this schedule can be found in LR 2/135.

The series contains also larger deeds which have been separated from those in LR 14Consequently, there are links between the two series, for instance some material relating to the Hospital of St Mary within Cripplegate, (London) and its founder William Elsing or concerning the Minories (London) is findable in both collections. In addition, there are a variety of letters patents, or copies of, being mostly leases or grants of Crown lands or related offices. The earliest record is an undated grant c 1180-1250 of lands in Norfolk. The latest record is a sale of trust premises held by one of the chief clerks of the Treasury, dated 1812.
