Description:

Folios 128-129. Petition to the Home Secretary of David Levy on behalf of his son Hart Levy, committed on 19 February by the Lord Mayor of London and Alderman Staines on the oath of Adam Mills to 6 months in Bridewell for taking illegal insurance, stating that Mills had made a false, malignant and malicious assertion on oath, that Hart Levy could neither read nor write, and that subsequently Mills had been sent to prison by Aldermen Boydell and Staines for wilful and corrupt perjury. Aldermen John Boydell and William Staines, recommending mercy, countersign the petition, and Paul Le Mesurier, lord mayor, confirms that Levy had been convicted solely on Mills's evidence, and that Mills was later convicted of perjury.
