Description:

Folios 67-70. Letter from Lord Hill, Horse Guards, presenting complaint to Lord Melbourne, enclosing copy of letter from Lieutenant General Samuel Hawker on the subject of the disturbances in Kent.

Letter from Hawker, Boulogne, [France] concerning the disturbances in Kent, and comparing it to the Luddite disturbances of 1811 in the manufacturing districts. At this time the Lieutenant was in Nottingham, with troops in order to aid civil authority.

He also received assistance from Bow Street magistrates, and is in correspondence with [Mr Hereval], Minister. The Lieutenant is giving his recollection in order to assist.
