I. P. M., taken at Nantwich before Thomas Savage and Thomas Dolves, Knights, George Cotton, Esq., Henry Hainwaringe, Esq., Estreator of Cheshire, and Ralph Wilbraham, Esq., Foodary of Cheshire, relating to the Estates of Thomas Wilbraham, deceased. Jury:- Ralph Hassall of Hankilowe, Esq., John Egerton of Newall, William Allen of Brindley, Alexander Elcocke of Poole, John Breane of Aston, Edward Tannatt of Broxton, John Houghton of Houghton, Ran' Buckley of Houghton, Robert Whitney of Coole, Thomas Brooke of Leighton, Ralph Horton of Coole, Edward Bresseye of Awlem, William Salmon of Coole lane, William Salmon of Wyldheath, John Wettenhall of Coppenhall, Richard Steele of Sandbach and Ran' Smith of Brindley, gentlemen. The Jury found that the deceased Thomas Wilbraham died seised of the following:-

 

(1) The Manors of LONGDENDALE and MOTTRAM IN LONGDENDALE, hold in Chief of the King by service of one-fortieth part of a knight's fee and the ann. rent of £18 and 13d., and are valued at £23. 6s. 8d. p.a.

 

(2) The Manor of RADNOR, and 5 messuages, 60 acres of land, 10 acres of meadow, 40 acres of pasture, 6 acres of wood and 10 acres of moor and turbary, all with their appurtenances, in KETTLESHOLME, KNIGHESHOLME, BRADUALL, STANTHORNE and CASTLETON JUXTA NORWICH, also 1 parcel of land in Wynnington called le Conigree (13 acres), held of Peter Venables, Esq., as of his Manor of Kinderton, in socage, viz. by rent of 8 barbed arrows and 1 pair of gloves, per annum, for all services, and are valued at £4. 4s. per annum.

 

(3) 2 Salt-pits of 16 loads [salt-pans] in NORTHWICH, hold of William, Earl of Derby, by service unknown, and valued at 53s. 4d. per annum.

 

(4) The Manor of WOODLEY and 3 messuages, 104a. land, 10a. meadow and 60a. pasture in WOODLEY and FADDILEY, held of Randal Mainwaringe of Poover, Knight, as of his Manor of Baddiley in socage by rent of 18½d. per ann. for all services, and are valued at £8. 2s. per annum.

 

(5) 1 toft in Faddiley called Downegresse, 1 field there called Lightmore, 3 crofts there called Golbornes Crofts (13 acres), and 2 pastures there called Urians field and Hitchins field, all held of Randal Mainwaringe, knight, in socage as of his Manor of Baddiley by rent of 3/- p.a., and are valued at 34/- p.a.

 

(6) 3 crofts in Faddiley lately purchased of Edward Lea, knight, and held of the lord of Baddiley by service unknown, and are valued at 11d. p.a.

 

(7) 2 messuages, 40a. land, 5a. meadow and 6a. pasture in FADDILEY, held of the heirs of William Handford, esq., by service unknown, and are valued at 18d. p.a.

 

(8) 2 messuages, 70a. land, 5a. wood, in BROXTON, held of Lord Audley by service unknown, and are valued at 40/- p.a.

 

(9) The Manor of Shocklach Ovyatt and 23/6 of rent arising from 100a. land, 40a. meadow and 100a. pasture in SHOCKLACH OVYATT, and also of 20a. land in CHURCH SHOCKLACH, all held of the King by service unknown, and are valued at 30/- p.a.

 

(10) 2 messuages, 1 cottage and 30a. land in BUNBURY and OTEWORTH, held of William Brereton, knight, in free socage, and are valued at 23/4 p.a.

 

(11) 1 messuage in BUNBURY called Le Colledge of Bunbury, and 16 cottages and 30a. land in BUNBURY and SPURSTOWE, held of the King as of his Manor of East Greenwich in free socage, and are valued at 10/- p.a.

 

(12) 4 salt-pits of 24 leads [salt-pans] in MIDDLEWICH, held of Peter Venables of Kinderton, esq., in socage by rent of 2/- p.a. and of 12d. payable to the Wardens of the Church of St. Michael in MIDDLEWICH, for all services. [Valuation not given.]

 

(13) 3 other salt-pits of 30 lands in MIDDLEWICH, held of the King as Earl of Chester, and at the time of Thos. Wilbraham's death held of the late Prince Henry, Earl of Chester, in free socage by rent of 2/- p.a. called Le Kinges Mole for all services and demands. [Value not given.]

 

(14) 4 messuages and 4 gardens thereto adjacent in MIDDLEWICH, held of the King as Earl of Chester, and at the time of Thos. Wilbraham's death held of the Prince late Earl of Chester in free burgage by fealty.

 

(15) 1 croft of 11a. of land in KINDERTON called Boardmanscrofte and 1 other croft of 10a. of land there late in tenure of John Yardley, held of Peter Venables by service unknown, and are valued at 46/8 p.a.

 

(16) 16/- of rent annually arising from 30a. land in LEETWICH late in tenure of Robert Wynnington deceased, and 6a. land there late in tenure of James Leigh and John Leftwich, held by service unknown, and are valued at 4/8 p.a.

 

(17) 1 messuage and 40a. land in BUERTON, held of John Poole, esq., in socage by rent of 15/- p.a. for all services, and are valued at 10/- p.a.

 

(18) The Manor of Tilston Fearnall and 3 messuages, 1 cottage, 56a. land, 10a. meadow and 40a. pasture, and also 2 water-mills, in TULSTON FEARNALL all held of the Dean and Chapter of the Cathedral Church of Christ and the B. V. M. at Chester, in free socage (common) and by an annual rent of £3 for all services, and are valued at 3/4 p.a.

 

(19) The Moiety of 1 messuage and 40a. land in CALVELEY held of the heirs of Hugh Davenport, esq, by service unknown, and one-fourth part of 1 messuage and 10a. land in RIDLEY held of Ralph Egerton, esq., in socage by fealty, and are valued at 20/- p.a.

 

(20) 1 messuage and 15a. land in SHURLACH, held of the heirs of Richard Loftwich in free socage by rent of 17d. and one-quarter of a pound of pepper per annum, and are valued at 13/4 p.a.
