Owned by John Gunthorpe (d. 1498), Dean of Wells: 'Liber M' Iohannis Gunthorp' Decani Wellensis. anno x(i) 1484(to)', f. 1r, at foot. Gilt centrepiece from an earlier binding (see Physical description) is a crest: On a chapeau turned up ermine an ostrich holding in its beak a horseshoe. This is the crest of Sir Edward Coke (1549-1633); the volume doubtless came to Sion College with the library of his son Sir Robert Coke (1587-1653), which was given by George Berkeley, 1st Earl of Berkeley (d.1698) in 1682, although part was not received until 1699.
