Photographs 1-4 relate to Mr. Ernest Butler's family. Details given below. Mr. Butler married twice. Mrs. Marjorie Butler (nee Cartwright) is his second wife. Marjorie (born 1911) was the eldest of 2 daughters of Frederic Kemp Cartwright and Dora, nee Crippin. Frederic Cartwright was a colliery engineer. He was born in 1883, brought up in Derby and went to "get his ticket" at the Wigan School of Mines where he met and married Dora. They had two daughters, Marjorie (the donor) born in 1911, and. The Cartwright family subsequently lived in Crigglestone, Horebury (half way between Leeds and Wakefield), Blaenavon (for 21 years) and finally Bramhall when Frederic worked for Glover Bros., Wire Rope Manufacturers. Dora Crippin (born 1882) was the eldest of 3 children of Mr. ? Crippin and his wife Elizabeth. Mr. Crippin was a studio photographer in Pemberton near Wigan. Dora's two brothers Stanley and Will took over the business on their fathers death but subsequently quarrelled, parted and went their own ways Stanley finished up as an optician in Pemberton. Photographs 5-22 relate to Mrs. Butler's family.
