Adam MacGregor Wilson was born in 1888 in East Lothian, Scotland. His parents were Adam and Catherine Wilson and he had two siblings, Charles and Catherine. Wilson grew up in Edinburgh and in 1913 he married Gertrude Jamieson.
Wilson joined The Black Watch in 1908 at Fort George. In 1914 he was promoted to Sergeant with the 1st Battalion. He was appointed Quartermaster with the 8th Battalion and promoted to 2nd Lieutenant in 1915. Thereafter, he was seconded to the attached Royal Scots and the attached Machine Gun Corps. Wilson died on service in Baghdad from heat stroke on 10 August 1920.
Wilson’s diary begins on 9 May 1915, as he leaves Bordon Barracks, England, for Boulogne-Sur-Mer, France. Mostly long, detailed entries, sometimes including sketches. Found loose inside is a letter dated 21 April 1926 to Wilson’s brother, regarding the diary being of assistance to General Wauchope.
