Details of PAR383
Reference: PAR383
Title: PARISH OF HORAM
Description:

Horam Christ Church was erected in 1890 as a mission church. According to Kelly's 'Directories of Sussex' the conventional church district of Horam Christ Church was formed from the parishes of Hellingly, Heathfield and Waldron in December 1890. The gospel hall at Vines Cross is recorded in the directories from 1915. It later became known as St James, Vines Cross, and is now (1993) a daughter church of Horam. Many of the parish records for Horam also include St James, Vines Cross. The Horam baptismal register contains entries for St James from April 1926 (PAR383/1/2/1). The electoral rolls and parish magazines cover both churches (PAR383/7/1,2). The PCC minutes and annual reports include references to both churches (PAR383/14/2,4,6, PAR383/16/1) and the PCC accounts include accounts for the Vines Cross Church Room up to 1924, and for St James, Vines Cross from 1925 (PAR383/15/1-14).
