The negatives in boxes 1-17 (AR 1-189) were taken by Birtles (chiefly T Birtles), photographers, of Warrington, and were transferred from the films studios at Legh House, Sankey Street, Warrington, to the Alkali Division of ICI in 1948 (see DIC/BM 15/28). They were labelled "from memory" (with varying accuracy) by J E Birtles, probably at the time of transfer, and where likely to be useful, if not necessarily correct, these labels are quoted in the descriptions given above.
