Description:

This was sold by George Castle of Bridge, in 1734, to James Dearneley of Long Ing in the Parish of Kirkburton, clothier. By his will (proved 27 Jun, 1743) Dearnely left to his wife Martha his messuage at Upper Thong called Wickens and to his son William the estate at Ellentreehead (subject to another son Samuel enjoying the rents of part for 12 years).

 

William Dearnely mortgaged the property and it was sold in 1763 to William Armitage of Aspley, Hudddersfield.

 

Will of William Armitage, Abstract of will of Elizabeth Armitage and admission of Thomas Armitage, 1796. (deeds 1-19).

 

William Armitage the younger subsequently mortgaged the property and in 1827 it came into the possession of the Hudswell family. Armitage was imprisoned as an insolvent debtor and there were legal complications owing to the fact of Thomas Armitage's idiocy.
