Administrative / biographical background:

The school opened on 10 June 1895 as a Board School, but became a Council school after 1904. On 1 April 1974 it transferred from Durham County Council to Sunderland Borough Council Local Education Authority. On 24 July 1981 the school closed and pupils transferred to Richard Avenue Primary School.
