Atlantic Causeway and Atlantic Conveyor were built by Swan Hunter Shipbuilders for Cunard as Cunard's contribution to the European shipping consortium, Atlantic Container Lines. Atlantic Causeway was completed in 1969. She saw service during the Falklands war when she was fitted with a ski ramp for Harrier jet operations. After the war, she was laid up in Liverpool and broken up in Taiwan in 1986. Atlantic Conveyor was completed in 1970 and was also used in the Falklands War. She was hit by an exocet missile on 25 May 1982 and sank six days later with the loss of 12 crew.
