Born Winson Green, Birmingham 5/8/92 and educated at Webster Rd, Council School, Liverpool. Son of William Pruden (a toolsmith) of 28 Tiverton St, Wavertree, Liverpool and later of 3 Westdale Rd, Wavertree, Liverpool. Originally enlisted in Liverpool on 5/8/14 as No 3109 (later 355480) in 10 KLR. Aged 22 at enlistment , address 28 Tiverton St, Liverpool, occupation foreman with William Blake and Sons also listed as an apprentice tobacco blender operator, height 5' 7" with good physical development. He stated the he had previously served with the ASC (TF) and was discharged Term of Engagement. To France 1/11/14 from Southampton. To Hospital sick (unspecified) 21-23/3/15. Appointed L/Cpl 17/6/15. Treated for a gumboil 18-22/8/16 at Oswestry Military Hospital . Promoted Cpl 23/8/16.Wounded 10/10/15 (sw to head, l shoulder and leg) and admitted to 142 Field Ambulance. Admitted 8 Stationary Hospital (Wimereux) 11/10/15. To UK 15/10/15 on the HS Munich. Transferred to the MGC 5/4/17 as No 104859. Joined No 1 MGC Cadet Battalion 1/6/17. Treated at Connaught Hospital 5-7/6/17 for scabies. Discharged to a commission in MGC 25/9/17. To France 23/10/17 and joined MGC Base Depot at Camiers. Joined 102 Coy MGC 24/10/15. To course at HQ, St Pol 15/2/18 to 4/3/18 - at this point he seems to have joined 34 Battalion MGC. On leave to UK via Boulogne 7-21/3/18. Rejoined Battalion 23/3/18. Wounded (gas) 9/4/18 and admitted to 104 Field Ambulance - returned to duty the same day. Admitted 102 Field Ambulance (residual gas effects) 24/4/18 and transferred to 64 Casualty Clearing Station the same day. Admitted 5 British Red Cross Hospital 25/4/18. Evacuated to the UK (Boulogne - Dover) 27/4/18 and the HS Cambria. Died of influenza at 0500 on 27/11/18 in Belton Park Military Hospital, Grantham. In his will he added a codicil for an unspecified amount of money for a Miss H Young of 95 China St, Netherfield Rd, Liverpool. He left estate valued £210 17s 10d. (Officers Papers - PRO)

Effects £210 17s. 10d. (National Probate Calendar - Index of Wills and Administrations)

The following is transcribed from a headstone in Toxteth Park Cemetery, Liverpool:- In loving memory of Charlotte, the beloved wife of William Pruden, who died 1st April 1911, aged 51 years. Also Lieut. Walter Henry Pruden, M.G.C. late of the 1/10 Liverpool Scottish Reg. son of the above who died 27th November 1918, aged 26 years Thy will be done. Also Edith Matilda, the dearly beloved wife of Thomas A Marlow, and beloved daughter of the above, who died 14th May 1920, aged 34 years. ‘She is not dead but sleepeth.’ Luke VIII. 52.
