Title: Huntingfield Cartulary
Description:

Label, 2 hands of the mid 16th century which endorse many of Katherine Brandon's documents, Antiquum Recordum et Supervisio de Toft. The cover is a doubled membrane of parchment which appears to be an account for the collection of tithe (payments for hay, wool, calves, lambs, foals, sheep, bees, hemp) hand of early 14c. Ralph de Cobeldyk occurs among the names: Kirton and Multonhall (Frampton) are mentioned.

 

ff. 1-4 appear to be an insertion added to the book after the main body was complete. f. 1 ro is rubbed.

Property: 1. 30½ acres on the west side of the road to Hilldike, in 4 places.

 

2. 15 perches of land wide starting from the grantor's cultura in breadth and from Humbrcroft to Sibsey boundary in breadth, next the 5 perches Baldric already has in that cultura.

 

3. 10 acres in Toft fields outside the marsh, in Schipenflete, Hennecroft and Rapedyk. This is to be treated as 2 bovates, which together with the 6 he already holds make a carucate, for which he is to do the service of an eleventh part of a knight's fee.

Roger of Huntyngfeld and the abbot of Kirkstead.

 

1. Roger gives to the Abbot and convent of Kirkstead 2 holmes in the new land in Laverdisneuland, in the corner nearest to the grange, in the Southwest, one holme being that exchanged by Roger with Robert of Fenna and the other next to Roger's demesne, with the fleets (flethis) which surround these holmes.

 

2. The abbot and convent give to Roger one and a half acres in Fishtoft marsh butting on Saltergate to the north, which they hold by gift of Ralph of Fenna's ancestors.

1. William grants to Nicholas and his successors rectors of Fishtoft, 4 acres ½ rod as a way to them and 7 feet to make a ditch between them and his land, in the eastern half of a culture called Hennecroft, the common sewer of Freiston east and William's land west.

 

2. Nicholas and his successors are not to interfere with the appointment of a chaplain who is to minister to and receive the offerings of William and his family in their chapel of Fishtoft.

1. The agreement is made after a writ of novel disseis in had been successfully sued out by the abbot against William, in respect of Aubrewde in Boleby (Bulby)

 

2. The abbot allows William a free cart road between Aubrewe and Suthorp park, leading east to west, 10 feet wide, by the feet of 3 men, outside the ditch.

 

3. William is to extend the ditches of his park no further than their present level.

 

4. The wood remaining on the ten-foot wide strip belongs to the abbot and is to be carted away by him.

 

5. If William's animals enter the abbot's wood with the knowledge of their guardians they will be impounded and the damage they have done paid for by William, if they stray unwittingly they are to be returned. 26 November, 1271, at Lincoln, before the itinerant judges of the lord king.
