These sound recordings are of various, mostly elderly, people who talk about their lives and sing songs. There are also some recordings of broadcast material (for example the Radio Ballads) which included new and traditional songs, and of new 'contemporary' folk songs sung by Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger and various members of the Critics Group. The people interviewed include: Amos Becket of Buckinghamshire Mrs Bennel Buckinghamshire Emily Bishop of Herefordshire Mrs Bushby from Birmingham and Somerset Cecilia Costello of Birmingham [N.B. All these recordings with Mrs Costello are CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC] Harry Cox of Norfolk George Dunn of Cradley Heath Bert Edwards from Shropshire Joe Heaney of Connemara Caroline Hughes, traveller Fred Jordan from Shropshire Phil Tanner of Glamorgan Lily Welch from Burton on Trent The recordings of Joe Heaney were done by Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger (MS 4000/5/3/5/5/26-28) and there is a recording from MacColl's collection of English traditional singers (MS 4000/5/3/5/5/29).
