Mrs. Graham was born in Deansgate 1905, lived there for twenty years, then moved to Stretford. She left school at fourteen, then completed six months course for 'young ladies' on Home Management. At fifteen she gained employment with a clothing firm in Deansgate as a salesperson. At nineteen she gained employment with a Hatters firm in Kings Street, again as a seller, selling to 'titled persons', this she did 'till her marriage at 27 to an aspiring insurance clerk. She became a housewife, raising two children, one boy and a girl.
