The National Amalgamated Furnishing Trades Association was formed in 1902 by an amalgamation between the Alliance Cabinet Makers Association and the United Operative Cabinet and Chairmakers Society of Scotland. Between 1920-1971 several other unions joined. In 1911 the Amalgamated Society of Gilders (1809) and Amalgamated Society of French Polishers (1894) joined.
