Description:

Manuscript Catalogue of Plants. Lusitania et Ins. Canary. 1-700.

At the beginning is a list of the contents of the volume which shows that from entries number 1 to 582 (presumably collected in Portugal) 467 species were collected. Entries 583 to 648 were made in Madeira and 72 species were collected and entries 649 to 700 were made in Tenerife where 52 species were collected.

At a later date some writing has been added which says, 'the following is copied from a mss. list of Burchell's in the possession of Professor E B Poulton entitled 'Index to the localities of the plants in the Brazilian Herbarium (including those of Portugal, Madeira and Tenerife)' N.B only those details are copied which are not to be found in this and the following volumes at Kew'. Burchell's itinerary for this trip has been transcribed and it also lists the catalogue numbers which relate to each location, the dates spent there, the number of species collected at that location and average number of plants collected on each day.

Following this there is a description of the numbering code used throughout the volume which is entitled 'State of the specimens in the herbarium as referred to in the catalogus geographicus'. The remainder of the volume lists plants collected and it includes a description of the location of where the plants were found.
