Deposited by the Director of Education in January 1952.
The records were found in the school building, then used as Audlem County Secondary School (for whose records see SL14).
Administrative / biographical background:
The Grammar School was founded by Thomas Gamull of London by will, dated 20 Jan.1642/3, and was built, 1652-1655. The school suffered many changes of use in the late 19th cent. and was finally closed under a Charity Commissioners' scheme, dated 26 Sep.1908. The premises were subsequently vested in Cheshire County Council and reopened as Audlem Senior Mixed Council School in 1913. For a history of the school see B. C. Redwood, 'Audlem Free Grammar School', Chester Arch. Soc. Journal, volume 51, pp.31-53
