Administrative / biographical background:

Blything Rural District Council was set up under the Local Government Act 1894, and was a successor to the Blything Rural Sanitary Authority, which was set up under the Public Health Act 1872. The district council geographically covered the Blything Union for administrative purposes comprising 45 parishes; for list of parishes see Kelly's directory for Suffolk 1892, or parishes listed under Rate Books (ref EF 6/2/6/3-5) within the list. Blything RDC was abolished under the Local Government Act 1929, when this council was merged with the Plomesgate Rural District Council to become Blyth Rural District Council in April 1934.
