This small deposit consists of plans and maps, which include the manor of Rothley. In addition to this one there are other small deposits relating to the Babington family and the manor of Rothley. For these see 6D46, 1D38.
In 1529 Humphrey Babington leased the manor of Rothley from the Knights Hospitallers, the successor order to the Templars. In 1565 the family bought the manor, where they remained until 1846, when it was sold to the Parkers. In 1893 Harry Parker sold the estate to Frederick Merttens. The two main deposits (44'28, 2D31) consist of title deeds and other papers relating to the Babington family and the lands belonging to the manor of Rothley
