Title: Diaries of Mary Blathwayt
Description:

She was an active suffragette, but although her diaries are comprised mainly of abstracts of the letters she received, little political material is included. From 1929, the diaries are increasingly made up of newspaper cuttings on a wide variety of subjects, and from 1934 onwards few of these are annotated.

Administrative / biographical background:

The diarist was born in 1879 in Worthing Sussex, daughter of Lt Col Linley Wynter and Emily Marion Blathwayt.

 

Throughout her life Mary made many visits to Germany and had close German friends. The reason for this connection is not made apparent through her diaries.
