Title: | Documents relating to the alleviation of flooding in the Pulborough area |
Description: |
Messrs. Howard Humphreys and Sons were appointed in June 1937 to report on 'what practical steps could be taken (a) materially to alleviate the flooding in the Pulborough District (b) to get away the flood water at a greater speed'. The report suggested the deepening of the river, the raising of the flood banks and the construction of arterial drains parallel to the river, two pumping stations and two new cuts at Houghton and Greatham Bridges, at an approximate cost of £199,300. The report was not implemented since the cost was considered to be out of proportion to the benefits likely to be obtained |
