Houghton-le-Spring Wesleyan Methodist Circuit was constituted in 1836. In 1932 it became the Houghton William Street Circuit. In September 1944 it amalgamated with the Houghton Mautland Street (formerly Primitive and United Methodists) Circuit to form the Houghton Methodist Circuit (see MC.HS1).
