Administrative / biographical background:

Christopher Pearson Shaw set up his firm of architects and surveyors in Bingham c 1908 (Kelly's Trade Directory for Nottinghamshire). His son, John Beetham Shaw, was articled to the business in 1909 but left in 1915 to join the army. On demobilisation, he rejoined the family business and eventually took it over on his father's death in 1925
