Catalogue description Sweeney Brickworks

The brickworks, located at Sweeney, near Oswestry, were leased by Stanley Leighton to the Oswestry Coal & Brick Co. Ltd. prior to 1880, then to the Sweeney Brick Co. Ltd., whose registered offices were in Manchester. After 1885 it was leased to Kay & Hindle Ltd. as the Sweeney Brick & Terra-cotta Works, and had ceased trading by 1901.

The majority of these documents are correspondence between Stanley Leighton and his solicitors with the Sweeney Brick Co. Ltd. and their solicitors and concern the leasing of the brickworks in 1880-1881.
