Administrative / biographical background:

Mr Sparrow is the last representative of this firm which in 1998 merged with ASTAM of Gloucester. The following records were selected by Mr Sparrow for deposit from various packets and rolls then being cleared from the firm's premises at 43 Park Road (he destroyed large scale detail drawings). Some drawings relating to particular churches were transferred to ASTAM or loaned to their respective Parochial Church Councils by Mr Sparrow on the understanding that they would eventually be handed over to the Record Office (for example see P154/7 accession 8204 & P84 accession 8205; see also D file for further details). Accession 8490 comprises glass lantern slides.

The archive includes many documents from the practice of Walter B Wood, which was taken over by Stratton Davis & Yates in the late 1920s. Mr Dolman, Wood's senior assistant, stayed on with Stratton Davis & Yates for a few years (he died in the 1930s). Where no architect's name is mentioned it should be assumed that the document in question originated with Stratton Davis & Yates. There are a few items which Mr Sparrow is unable to identify.
