History: | John Watt was the son of James Watt of Greenock (1698-1782) and brother of James Watt, the engineer and inventor. He followed his father into the family shipping business and was sent out with one of the firm's vessels to learn about the business. Unfortunately, he was drowned at sea in the Bahamas in 1763. |
