Date: c1708-1964
History: From 1708 became the normal instrument for governing the Navy, except for 1827-1828 when office of Lord High Admiral was revived. In 1832 civil administration of the Navy passed to the Board. On 1 April 1964 it became the Admiralty Board of Defence Council of the unified Ministry of Defence (MoD).
