History: Succeeded to dukedom, 1688. Went to Holland with William III in 1691 and fought at Steenkir, 1692. Commanded troops sent against Cadiz and Vigo, 1702. Appointed commander-in-chief and captain-general and sent to Flanders, 1712. Impeached and attainted, 1715.
