History: | Descent of manor Lowick was granted by William de Lancaster II to Robert de Turribus or Towers in the 12th century. It then passed to the Ambrose family in the 15th century where it remained until John Ambrose (d. 1684) conveyed the manor to John Latus of Millom. It was later passed by marriage to the Blencowe family and descended to the Everards and then to Colonel IVH Montagu. In 1914 the Montagu trustees were in possession of the lordship, with Arthur Montagu and CE Montagu being tenants for life in equal moieties. Nature of jurisdiction Courts were still held on a regular basis into the early 20th century. Sources A History of the County of Lancaster, Volume 8 (1914), pp.360-362. |
