Date: 1933-1948
History: The Dove Marine Laboratory at Cullercoats was opened in 1908, replacing a previous wooden hut erected by the Northumberland Sea Fisheries Committee in 1897, which burned down in 1904. The new laboratory was built by Wilfrid H. Hudleston, owner of the land and also a geologist and ornithologist, for Armstrong College, Newcastle, although it only passed fully into the ownership of what by then had become Newcastle University in 1967.
