History:

The Throckmorton family, originally from Worcestershire, acquired estates in Warwickshire and Buckinghamshire in the 15th century through two marriages. Sir John Throckmorton (d. 1445) married Eleanor Spiney of Coughton (Warwickshire). Their son Thomas married Margaret, daughter and heir of Sir Robert Olney of Weston Underwood (Buckinghamshire). Robert Throckmorton (d. 1650) was created a baronet in 1642.

Sir Robert Throckmorton, 2nd Bt (1662-1721), married Mary Yate of Buckland (Berkshire), who brought the Buckland estate and property in Worcestershire (Chaddesley Corbett) into the Throckmorton family. George Throckmorton (d. 1767) married Anna Paston of Horton (Gloucestershire), who through her mother, daughter and heir of John Courtenay of Molland (Devon), inherited property in Devon and Somerset. The Sampford Brett (Somerset) estate, however, was sold in the mid-19th century.

Estates in 1883: Warwicks 7,618 acres, Devon 6,589 acres, Worcs 3,618 acres, Berks 3,008 acres, Bucks 1,552 acres, total 22,385 acres worth £27,092 a year.
