History: The Anderson and Pelham families were both settled in north Lincolnshire in the late 16th century. Charles Anderson of Broughton (1749-1823) inherited the extensive Brocklesby estates on the death in 1763 of his great-uncle Charles Pelham, and was created Baron Yarborough in 1794. His son Charles Anderson-Pelham (1781-1846), who was created Earl of Yarborough in 1837, married in 1806 Henrietta Bridgeman Simpson, who had succeeded to the Appuldurcombe (Isle of Wight) estate on the death of her uncle, Sir Richard Worsley, 7th Bt., in 1805. The Isle of Wight estate was sold mainly in the 1850s. In 1886 the 4th Earl of Yarborough married Marcia Lane-Fox, later Baroness Fauconberge and Conyers, co-heir to estates in the North and West Ridings of Yorkshire (including the manor of Wakefield), which had formerly been part of the possessions of the Osborne family, Dukes of Leeds. In 1883 the Yarborough estates consisted of 56,795 acres in Lincolnshire and 98 acres in Berkshire, worth £84,649 a year. The Conyers estates comprised 3,460 acres in Yorkshire worth £8,538 a year.
