Title: Court of Augmentations and Court of General Surveyors: Miscellanea
Description:

The records in this series are mainly miscellaneous administrative, financial and legal records of the Court of Augmentations (1536-1554) and the Court of General Surveyors (1542-1547).

Administrative records include signet and sign manual warrants, internal warrants, and drafts of particulars, leases and grants, as well as a few surveys and rentals. Financial material mainly consists of vouchers subsidiary to the accounts of the Treasurer of the Court of Augmentations, as well as receivers' vouchers, and letters and memoranda of auditors. There will also be found legal proceedings of both courts, adjudicating disputes relating to the lands and profits within their charge. Included are writs used to initiate cases and gain the information necessary to judge a case, and privy seals for arrears and appearance at court.

There are too records of dissolved religious houses and chantries, as well as papers relating to the Dissolution and the pensions of the former religious. The series also includes a few records of the successors to the Court of Augmentations within the Exchequer. There are, therefore, receivers' vouchers to the Auditors of the Land Revenue and inventories of records held by the Augmentation Office, as well as notes of searches undertaken there by record keepers. Records of other institutions include some vouchers of the household of Catherine Parr, and minutes and memoranda of the commissioners for the king's debts, 1546.
