The original forms of application for the registration of proprietorship at Stationers' Hall under the Copyright Acts in force from 1842 to 1912, together with memoranda of assignments, minutes of consent, etc. In the case of paintings and drawings, photographs, commercial labels and advertisements, a print is usually annexed to the form; in that of literary works, a copy of the title page or cover or similar means of identification will sometimes be found.

The main categories of arrangement are: paintings and drawings; photographs; books, both literary and commercial; dramatic and musical representations, etc.; a general foreign register; foreign books; and other foreign categories.
