Description:

Surgeon Richard Hope. Letters (15) to Mrs. S. Needham (his aunt), Mrs. [ ] Rogers (his cousin's wife?) and Miss [ ] Rogers (his cousin?), all at Eastcote [in Ruislip] co. Middlesex. Quebec, Boston, British King off Station Island, and New York.

Note: 16 docts. Surgeon of the 52nd (originally known as the 54th) Regiment of Foot from June 1756 until 1776, when he was transferred to the staff of the Hospitals for the forces in North America. With the letter of 20 August 1775 is enclosed a copy of The Massachusetts Gazette: and the Boston Weekly News-Letter of 17 August 1775. These documents are believed to have been once in the possession of Samuel Robe Scargill Bird, an assistant keeper of the public records, and secretary, from 1903, of the Public Record Office, who entered the office in June 1866 and retired in March 1912.
