Ordnance Survey: Directorate of Field Survey: One-Inch Scale Name Books (Seventh Series)
This series contains files and maps relating to the names of areas, roads, landscape features and objects to be included or removed from Ordnance Survey one inch to a mile (1:63,360) mapping of Great Britain, together with the authority for their spelling. Includes an index.
A completely new edition of the one-inch (1:63,360) map of Great Britain - the Seventh Series - was authorised in 1947 and was to be based on field revision undertaken at 1:10,560 scale. A primary objective was to provide the whole of Great Britain with a uniform series of maps: owing to the recommendations of the Davidson Committee followed by the interruptions of war, such coverage had not been available since the Fourth Edition. The basic sheet layout of the Sixth Edition was retained, although some changes were made to enhance the readability of the Seventh Series.
