Description:

Papers transferred from the chambers of Master Pretor Whitty Chandler, who served in the Chancery Division of the High Court from 1913 until 1938. The series does include material generated by his predecessors and inherited by him. The predecessors of Master Pretor Whitty Chandler (1913-1938) in his role as a Master/Chief Clerk were Master Richard John Villiers (1894-1912), Master Charles Harwood Clarke (1873-1893) and, for causes with initial letters O-Z, Master Henry Leman (1852-1872).

These papers relate to actions in the Court of Chancery and the Chancery Division of the High Court of Justice and include papers concerning questions of title to estates on coming of age, guardianships, recovery of debt, maintenance of infants and company liquidation. This series also includes some pedigrees arising from the administration of estates. A number of estate agents' prospectuses of properties for sale by auction under orders of court will also be found among these papers.
