Administrative / biographical background:

An advisory council on transport was recommended by the Final Report of the Royal Commission on Transport in 1930. The Transport Advisory Council was set up by the Road and Rail Traffic Act of 1933.

Its purpose was to give advice and assistance to the Minister of Transport in connection with all matters relating to the means of and facilities for transport and their co-ordination, improvement and development.

The Council was abolished by the Transport Act of 1947 and a Central Transport Consultative Committee was established in its place.
