Description:

Comprises two entry books of particulars of the clerk of the rates to the commissioners for defective titles who sat during the reign of James I. This was a more formal way of dealing with the issue of concealed lands, which had exercised governments during the previous reign, in an attempt to stop the abuses of concealment hunters, such as William Typper, letters from whom are found in the first of the two volumes.
