Registrar of the High Court of Delegates: Bound Volumes of Printed Appeal Cases
Bound set of printed appeal cases of the Registrar of the High Court of Delegates. The papers were provided at the joint expense of the two parties to the case, one set being kept by the registrar, the others being distributed amongst the judges-delegate and counsel.
Cases comprise a summary of the proceedings in the lower court from which appeal was made, and an appendix giving the texts of documents cited in the summary, eg allegations and answers, depositions of witnesses, and exhibits. The proceedings, pleadings and prayers record the names of the judges hearing the cause and the parties involved. At the end of the documents for each cause there is a manuscript note of the sentence of the judges-delegate.
For some causes there are separate proceedings, pleadings and prayers, and sometimes separate appendixes, for both the appellant and the respondent. If a commission of review was granted, then there are further appeal proceedings, pleadings and prayers summarising the proceedings before the High Court of Delegates, and these papers are annotated with a note of the sentence of the judges-delegate appointed under the commission of review.
Some of the longest cases are accompanied by their own indexes.
For an index and repertory that gives the name of the cause, the type of cause, the court or courts appealed from, and a summary of the result of the cause see IND 1/10323
