Administrative / biographical background:

The National Consumer Council (NCC) was established in 1975. It is a Non-Departmental Public Body, initially sponsored by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

NCC's principal activity is policy advocacy to further the interests of all consumers. It does this by putting forward the consumer interest, particularly that of disadvantaged groups in society, by researching, campaigning and working with those who can make a difference to achieve beneficial change.

Consumer Focus was created on 1 October 2008 following the merger of Energywatch, Postwatch, and the National Consumer Council.
