Agricultural and Horticultural Census: Parishes lookup table: English parishes (version 1). This dataset is effectively a lookup table whose purpose is to translate the codes for agricultural parishes in England which are used in the parish summaries datasets for 1989-1994 (MAF 408/1-7). These codes appear in the AG_PARISH field in the 'PARISH' tables of the datasets. Codes for parishes take the form of a four or five digit number, with the first two digits denoting the county and the remaining digits denoting the individual parish.
The single table which comprises the dataset has fields which record the names and codes of agricultural parishes, and the names and codes of the 'real' parishes (i.e. local authority areas) corresponding to the agricultural parishes. 'Agricultural parishes' did not necessarily correspond to the areas of civil parish councils: sometimes they covered larger areas, e.g. urban areas like Bournemouth or Liverpool, or London boroughs. |
