This series consists of registered files of the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of War Transport, and the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation concerning the compilation of statistics on all aspects of the departments' work.

The files contain statistical returns, analyses and forecasts which were collected and prepared by the Ministry of Transport's Statistics Division.

Earlier files in this series mostly concern the availability, employment and location of British, Allied and neutral shipping, and shipping losses during the Second World War. Other files concern UK imports and exports, the Channel Tunnel, road accidents, road traffic counts, road goods transport, shipping tonnage and voyage times, the nationalised transport undertakings, particularly the British Railways Board, the Road Haulage Organisation, and the economic implications of transport policy.
