Catalogue description Exchequer of Pleas: Minute Books

Volumes kept for the Clerk of the Pleas containing rough records of the orders made in the court.

Many of the entries are cancelled. The books are informal in appearance, and one contains a doodle with accompanying verse.

Records of the orders made in the court were later more formally entered in the order books, in E 12

Subsequently they were entered in the rule books, in E 15

Specimens from a later series of books of rules of course, running to 1876, which was formerly in this series but later destroyed, are in J 89
